Quick Tips for Looking and Feeling Your Best
By: Shelia Olson

When you feel good about the way you look, you gain confidence and feel better about yourself. One easy way you can upgrade your appearance and boost your mood is by investing in your style. Revamping your fashion is just one of the many ways you can look and feel your best. Read on for more tips.
Ramp up your diet and exercise routines
Feeling and looking great starts on the inside. Taking good care of your mental and physical health will go a long way. Research shows that a healthy diet and regular physical activity aren’t just good for your mind and body—they’re also good for your mood. Also, make sure you’re getting enough sleep, which helps you feel rested, alert, and motivated. The average adult needs at least seven hours of sleep per night.
Declutter your home
Clutter can make your place look messy. Plus, it can be a source of stress. HomeMade Lovely offers a comprehensive guide to decluttering your space. For example, you should go room-by-room instead of tearing the entire house apart at once. As a general rule of thumb, get rid of duplicates as well as items that you haven’t used in more than two years. You can recycle, sell, or donate them, depending on the condition they’re in.
Clean out your wardrobe
Once you’ve decluttered the rooms of your house, tackle the closets. Cleaning out your wardrobe allows you to make room for new pieces. Take an organized approach. Start by taking everything out of the closet. Then, start sorting, creating a keep and a give-away pile. Take a second look at the “keep” pile, casting a critical eye to ensure you want everything that’s on it. You can then make a list of the staples you need to complete your wardrobe.
Dress for success
After you’ve cleaned out your wardrobe, take the opportunity to consider your personal style. Now is the perfect time to solidify your look for the future. The first step is defining your personal style. This quiz can help you develop your style inspiration. Another tip is to lay out your favorite outfits and identify their similarities. Once you have an idea of what you like to wear, figure out what you need to add to your wardrobe to achieve that look.
Practice daily self-care
Even when you aren’t enjoying a getaway, it’s still important to invest in yourself. Identify some acts of daily self-care you can incorporate into your regular routine, including meditating, reading, and walking in nature. Create a relaxing home environment by decluttering and adding some indoor plants. You can even pamper yourself by scheduling a spa day at Lauren’s Face the Day! Self-care doesn’t have to mean spending big bucks on fancy spa days. It’s simply about taking some time for yourself to unwind and focus on yourself.
Looking and feeling your best doesn’t have to mean running marathons or overhauling your entire closet. Taking small steps like those described above will get you there. Start making small changes and you’ll eventually notice a bigger change for the better.

Be your own by Carla Trujillo
Be your own
Be your own kind of beautiful,
fierce
strong
fabulous.
Be your own kind of superhero,
the one that moves mountains with a smile,
shakes hearts with a smirk,
creates sunlight by just being.
Be your own kind of powerful,
your own kind of gentle,
your own kind of special.
For there is no one like you,
and that, my dear, is enough to change the world.
The Importance of SPF
June 21st marks the onset of summer and the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. We, in the southern states, may also argue it’s the hottest day of the year, with each passing day getting noticeably hotter. During the summer solstice, the North Pole is tilted about 23.4 degrees toward the sun and the sun’s rays are now felt most intense. Although it can be uncomfortable, most concerning is- the more intense the sun feels, the more your exposure to UV rays. What are UV Rays? Also known as ultraviolet radiation, it is a type of radiation produced by the sun. Why Should I Be Concerned With UV Rays? Sunburn could be the least of your worries when it comes to UV rays. This type of radiation also causes premature aging, eye damage, and plays a key role in the development of skin cancer. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “between 40 and 50 percent of Americans who live to age 65 will have either basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma at least once. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer. More than 1 million cases are diagnosed in the U.S. each year.” How Do I Protect Myself? In addition to UV protecting sunglasses, sunscreen offers the best protection. There are two types of sunscreen inorganic and organic. Inorganic chemicals reflect the rays away from your skin, while organic or carbon-based compounds absorb the rays. What Kind Of Sunscreen Should I Use? There’s much debate on what kind of sunscreen is best for your skin and your overall health, but most doctors recommend a “broad-spectrum” UVA and UVB protection with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) over 30. What If I Never Get A Sunburn? Those of us with a little more melanin in our skin can argue that since we never get burned we must be naturally protected from UV rays. Not true. UV rays damage everyone’s skin. A tan or darkening of one’s skin, regardless of your native color, is a sign of sun damage. Do I Have To Wear Sunscreen Every Day? Yes! unless you live and work underground. Apply sunscreen as part of your morning beauty routine. There are plenty of sunscreens on the market that won’t make you look oily or smudge your makeup. Test a few to see which works best for you. Getting skin cancer is terrible, but maybe you’re still unconcerned. In that case, let me appeal to your vanity- you won’t look so cute in that bikini if your skin is wrinkly and your face looks like it belongs to someone twice your age. Make this summer your best one yet, but remember to wear sunscreen at all times. Protect you and your family from the sun’s harmful rays. Blog post by Kristen Llorca |
Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine
Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine
Spring has sprung! You already know that the new season comes with budding blooms, baby animals and more sunshine, but did you know it’s also the time for a skincare “spring cleaning”? Regardless of your skin type, the transition from winter to spring can be tough on your body’s first line of defense – your skin. But, with some small tweaks to your current routine, you will look and feel fresh and fabulous for the months ahead.
Here’s the scoop: During the dry winter months, our thirsty skin cries out for a thicker, more emollient moisturizer. But once heat and humidity begin to rise (hello, Miami!), your skin’s natural oil production increases as well. So, what does this mean for your skin? A lighter moisturizer, and added sun protection. You’ll also want to take a closer look at how you are cleansing and treating your skin to find what combination of products works best for you.
Here are Lauren’s suggestions to “spring clean” your skincare routine:
- Exfoliate (gently!). Is your visage looking a bit dull post-winter? Now is the time to use gentle scrubs and light exfoliating peels to brighten up. Exfoliation assists with deep cleansing, and also helps your fresh skin cells come to the surface. As an added bonus, your products will penetrate more deeply and your makeup will go on more smoothly. With a more even skin tone, you may even want to start using less makeup!
- Switch to a lighter moisturizer. Even if you consider your skin to be dry, higher humidity results in more oil production for all skin types. Moisturizers can be lightweight while still delivering a hefty dose of hydration through natural emollients as well as skin-plumping hyaluronic acid. So, skip the thick, heavy lotions and let your skin breathe with a lighter formula.
- Add an antioxidant serum. Serums contain a higher concentration of active ingredients, and are meant to be layered under moisturizer. Every day, your skin is exposed to a barrage of damaging free radicals. UV exposure, air pollution and toxins – yuck. These free radicals all eventually lead to environmental damage, like wrinkles and sun spots. An antioxidant serum – one containing Vitamin C, Vitamin E, green tea, or a combination – will counteract that damage. Now that you’ll be spending more time in the great outdoors, it’s prime time to add antioxidants to your skincare routine.
- Jumpstart your new routine with a professional facial. Who doesn’t want a little extra TLC after the winter months, or, let’s face it, in any season? By making an appointment with an esthetician, your skin will get the professional care it needs. Lauren and Gloria are available to get your skin in tip-top shape with a relaxing treatment, so be sure to call us soon to schedule a time to unwind! After your facial, we can also discuss the best skincare regimen for your unique needs.
Here’s to a glowing season ahead!
