Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine
Spring has sprung! You already know that the new season comes with budding blooms, baby animals and more sunshine, but did you know it’s also the time for a skincare “spring cleaning”? Regardless of your skin type, the transition from winter to spring can be tough on your body’s first line of defense – your skin. But, with some small tweaks to your current routine, you will look and feel fresh and fabulous for the months ahead.
Here’s the scoop: During the dry winter months, our thirsty skin cries out for a thicker, more emollient moisturizer. But once heat and humidity begin to rise (hello, Miami!), your skin’s natural oil production increases as well. So, what does this mean for your skin? A lighter moisturizer, and added sun protection. You’ll also want to take a closer look at how you are cleansing and treating your skin to find what combination of products works best for you.
Here are Lauren’s suggestions to “spring clean” your skincare routine:
- Exfoliate (gently!). Is your visage looking a bit dull post-winter? Now is the time to use gentle scrubs and light exfoliating peels to brighten up. Exfoliation assists with deep cleansing, and also helps your fresh skin cells come to the surface. As an added bonus, your products will penetrate more deeply and your makeup will go on more smoothly. With a more even skin tone, you may even want to start using less makeup!
- Switch to a lighter moisturizer. Even if you consider your skin to be dry, higher humidity results in more oil production for all skin types. Moisturizers can be lightweight while still delivering a hefty dose of hydration through natural emollients as well as skin-plumping hyaluronic acid. So, skip the thick, heavy lotions and let your skin breathe with a lighter formula.
- Add an antioxidant serum. Serums contain a higher concentration of active ingredients, and are meant to be layered under moisturizer. Every day, your skin is exposed to a barrage of damaging free radicals. UV exposure, air pollution and toxins – yuck. These free radicals all eventually lead to environmental damage, like wrinkles and sun spots. An antioxidant serum – one containing Vitamin C, Vitamin E, green tea, or a combination – will counteract that damage. Now that you’ll be spending more time in the great outdoors, it’s prime time to add antioxidants to your skincare routine.
- Jumpstart your new routine with a professional facial. Who doesn’t want a little extra TLC after the winter months, or, let’s face it, in any season? By making an appointment with an esthetician, your skin will get the professional care it needs. Lauren and Gloria are available to get your skin in tip-top shape with a relaxing treatment, so be sure to call us soon to schedule a time to unwind! After your facial, we can also discuss the best skincare regimen for your unique needs.
Here’s to a glowing season ahead!
